SEATTLE, WA – When I first started this process of looking for my next “New-2-Me-RV,” I really thought it would be a little easier than it’s been. I thought I’d be able to walk onto a couple of different RV lots, look at some quality options in my price range, pull the trigger and boom I’d have an RV! Unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet. I’d say, I’ve been searching hard for the last 3-4 months and nothing yet.
WHAT MAKES IT SO HARD?
I think what makes it so hard right now, is that prices are still a little high for RVs. I’ve seen a lot online and at lots that frankly to me were way overpriced. I get an RV is different from your regular car or truck and it’s specialized, however for a quality used RV, I’m not sure they should be selling around the same price or higher in some cases.
RVing is fun, I enjoy it and I enjoy the adventure, but I also have a budget and need to make sure I don’t get in over my head and that’s part of what makes this process so difficult. Especially when you see a rig you know you want an love and you start doing the mental math and trying to figure out how to pull it off, even though deep down, you know you probably need to just walk away.
SO WHAT’S NEXT?
For me right now, I have to remain calm… make sure I’m making smart decisions and here comes the Star Wars reference… I need to, “Use The Force.” I’ll keep looking around and around, but something tells me, when the right rig comes along it will find me. I really believe that to be the case. Until then, the hunt continues.

Let me ask you a question: Have you bought an RV lately? How was your stress level during the whole process?

Great post and video! Especially your summary, and worth remembering.

Great advice for all big purchase decisions!
Since an RV is such a big purchase, part of the stress was really understanding how we wanted to RV in this season of our lives. Getting that right was important for us and the stress was in wondering if I got it wrong. So your thoughts on not rushing yourself and trusting the force, is spot on.
The other thing causing stress is that as I researched, my options kept increasing. What I needed was to narrow things down! I think your approach to explore options, but eliminate the ones that aren’t a good fit, will help steer you in the right direction.
Wishing you the best!
Al
Al thanks so much and I 100% feel you on the options expanding. When I first started thinking about everything I was seriously considering a used minivan off of a discount lot for $2k… still think it would have been a fun project, but as I’ve done more and more research, that budget has grown 😂
I ordered a new travel trailer in Oct ( it was built in Jan. I will pick it up in Apr.). A week after I ordered it my trucks engine blew and I needed a new truck. Good news is I got a new truck and soon a new camper. October was very stressful.
Oh man! Mike I feel for you. So with your trailer coming in April are you taking it out in April?😉
I wish I was going out in April. We are from WI and we’re going to Ohio to pick it up. We will spend one night in it on the way home but the first real camp trip will be in May.
Well it’s still going to be super cool😁
