SEATTLE, WA – I love to “Chef-It-Up!” There is no question about it. When I’m out and about, I love cool gear to help prepare really good meals.

Last year, after my old grill developed a hole in it, I went on the search for a replacement and found a new “Char-griller Tabletop Grill,” and thus began a new love affair with my grill. I loved, carrying it with me in the RV and pulling it out everywhere to cook with it.

“SETTING UP THE GRILL”

“FIRST TIME COOKING WITH THE GRILL”

Now I’m adding to my road cooking appliances with another great Char-Griller accessory, “The Char-Griller 17 inch Flat Iron Griddle.”  Earlier this year I showed you all when I got the grill.

Now it’s time to season it and try it out for the very first time.  The first thing you want to do after you unbox the unit and wash the griddle down with warm soap and water and then dry it off completely.

After, set it up outside, hook up the 1 gallon propane tank and fire it up.

Once it comes up to heat, you want to take some oil and in my case I used olive oil and poured it on and then wiped it all around. You don’t want to leave any excess on the grill, once the oil is on there, let it cook for a couple of minutes and the repeat 3 more times.

After the last time oiling your griddle down, turn it off and let it cool down. In my case I let it cool down so that I could make breakfast on it the next morning.

The next morning, I fired up the grill to make, eggs and bacon, along with pancakes. Here’s the recipe for the pancakes:

  • 1 Cup of flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking powder and baking soda
  • 3 teaspoons of sugar
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 2 teaspoons of canola oil
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • 3/4 of a cup of buttermilk
  • 1/4 of whole milk

Mix dry ingredients and wet ingredients separately, then combine until the batter is a smooth consistency.

Cooking on the griddle was very easy. I did the bacon first, with a little oil on the griddle. Then cooked the bacon and finally did the pancakes. In between each item, I scraped the griddle. Then once the pancakes were done, shut the griddle down and had an amazing breakfast!

Again, the first time out was a success, but it was only my balcony. Now it’s time to take it on the road and do some more meals car camping and when I do that, I’ll make sure to share all of the experiences!
