CARNATION, WA – When it comes to car camping, I still consider myself a newbie… a rookie… a beginner if you will. I am still trying to work out the kinks and as anyone who has ever done some car camping knows, it takes a little bit to work those out.

I got into car camping back in 2021 after my roof blew off of my RV and I had to wait to get it fixed. That’s when I really started to explore the “lifestyle” if you will. I don’t live in my car full-time so setting it up for that is not what I’ve been trying to do, but getting it to a place where I can camp comfortably is important.

When I first set-up my car for camping, I just used some basic items that I had around the apartment and my RV.

During the summer of 2021, I did go out a few times car camping and continued to tweak how I slept, carried and stored items and how I handled the process overall.

Now as I get back into more car camping, I’m looking to fine tune my set-up and this is the first version of what the new set up looks like.

One of the key items that I absolutely love are these “Magnelex Sock Style Car Window Shades”

They are a game changer and keep bugs out and allow the breeze to come in. They have a lot of different options for vehicles and they’re not that expensive and fit perfectly on my windows. Here’s a link to how you can pick a set up from Amazon:

As far as my overall gear list for car camping, I’ll add it here for you and as I pick up new things for the Subaru Crosstrek, I’ll add them to the list and share them with you:

Olee Sleep Tri-Folding Memory Foam Topper, 4” H, Blue…

YELOMIN 20000mAh Portable Solar Charger…

Anwiner Headlamp, USB Rechargeable LED Head Lamp…

UXD Car Phone Mount…

Coleman Classic 2 Burner Stove…

Igloo 41 Can Cooler…

Magnelex Sock Style Car Window Shades…

Mini Desk Fan, USB Operated Fan with 4 Speeds…

Odoland 0.8L Camping Kettle Set with Cup…

Primula Brew Buddy Portable Pour Over…

UST 5 Gal Water Carrier Cube…

Ozark Trail Cast Iron Skillet 8 Inches…

So that’s it, my 2022 car camping set-up for now. I am looking at a couple of items to add to my camping experience: A new cooler… traditional or electric and some sort of power station that I can carry with me, perhaps add solar with.  I’m hoping by picking up something like this, I can finally get out and boondock in some remote places.

If YOU have insight and experience with coolers/refrigerators and or power stations, drop a comment below and let me know your thoughts, I’d really appreciate it!
