BRILLION, WI – Growing up, I have always loved eating at funky little spots. My dad calls them, “joints.” Places that aren’t real fancy, but that have really good food. And I believe if you find a spot like that, you have to keep going back to it to support it and ultimately get some great food.
On my way to my most recent car camping adventure at Harrington Beach State Park,” I discovered one of these “Joints.”
| CAR CAMPING HARRINGTON STATE BEACH… REALLY COOL
On the way, I stumbled onto this place in Brillion Wisconsin. As I was driving and getting hungry, I wanted to find a unique place to stop at. Some place I may never go back to because I don’t know if I will be in the area again, but also something “Mom & Pop”-ish. No chains for me, I’m always searching out something fun.
In this case, I stumbled upon a funky little diner called, “Rudy’s” in Brillion. If you blink, you might miss it, so don’t blink because you don’t want to miss this. Located at 17 W Ryan St, it looked the part. Interesting sign… they serve breakfast anytime and for me, breakfast is my jam, I can eat that ANYTIME.
Sitting down in a booth and looking around, it’s as if the place had not changed in, 40-50 years. It definitely had the “right” vibe of a joint and after my first cup of coffee, I was hoping that was a precursor to a good classic America Dine meal and it was.
I had eggs and sausage, with loaded hash browns and a waffle. To me, the waffle is the key at a diner… if the waffle stands out and is good, then usually the rest of the food is really solid. Rudy’s did not let me down.

The waiter told me, “Rudy’s” first opened its doors back in 1939 when a guy named Rudy built the “joint.” Over the years, it’s changed hands but the name has stayed. When you look for it online you might even see it as “Rudy’s Cafe.” No matter what you call it, “Rudy’s” was the perfect spot along the way.
So now you know my weakness… a cool “Joint”… Breakfast anytime… and a good cup of coffee. When it comes to food out… what is YOUR Jam? Comment below and let me know. I love hearing what others enjoy when they eat outside of the friendly confines of home.
