GREEN BAY, WI – First, Happy Father’s Day! To all those Dads and those who serve the “Dad” role, I hope you have an amazing day! Happy Father’s Day to my Pops as well who I love very much and learn from everyday to this day!

Let’s be honest, it’s kind of hard to be “RVJedeye” without my RV. As many of you know, I took a job here in Green Bay, back in November of 2019.  At that time of the year, I didn’t want to take a chance of driving up and in the snow. Not to mention the fact, that I was looking for an apartment, starting a new job, trying to learn a new city, honestly it would have been a lot at one time.

So I opted to keep my rig in storage in Florida, until I could find a time to go back, pick it up and drive it back to Green Bay.  Now I had hoped all that would have happened early in the spring and by now I would have been exploring Northeast Wisconsin in my RV, seeing what RVing in this area was all about.

And then Covid-19 hit and shut the country down, so getting back to Florida was going to have to wait.  Well I waited… and waited… and waited… until June before I saw a window of opportunity.  I hadn’t taken any vacation in 6 months, so I had the time. I just needed to find the right week… and flight to head down South.

Well that came mid-June and I jumped at the chance to do it! Now before I could leave the state I had to start the overall process by first finding a place for my RV to live once I got it back here. So I went online and called around and it took me a good week to find a spot for my baby.  I called all over and it was hard finding a place to store her.

The other thing I had to deal with, that I had never worried about in Florida, was the fact that I needed to store the rig inside because of the weather.  In Florida, I really never stopped RVIng. At the beginning of the year I maybe took a month off or so to do some upgrades for the year and get things serviced, however that was basically it. I could RV year round in Florida.

So after making a ton of calls, I found a storage place not too far from my home. One that I could park inside and that would fit my Class A Winnebago Sightseer.

With the new home set, it was now time to go online and find a flight and again because of the Coronavirus flying out of Green Bay was difficult. One one hand, there were some really cheap flights, however to fly out of Green Bay at the time to go to Tallahassee I only had one option a day. A 3pm flight that with transfers and connections would take me two days to get to Florida and that was not going to cut it.

So I found a flight on American Airlines, leaving from the Appleton Airport, about 45 minutes South of where I live.  I closed the deal, booked the flight and that part of the journey was now set.

The final piece of the puzzle was to just put in for some vacation time so I could do it all. I’m not good at taking a lot of vacation time, especially in a relatively new job, however I put in anywhere from 12-15 hours a day, 5-6-sometimes 7 days a week and I have to get better at taking care of myself… that’s a whole different blog one day.  Anyway, I did it! I put in the time and now everything was set… my plans were in place to head to Florida and get my RV… so that’s what I did!
