DES MOINES, WA – This week, I wanted to do something different on the road car camping at Saltwater State Park in Des Moines Washington.  I love Italian food, so I wanted to bring some of that on the road with me with a unique and fun meal.

Steak Pizzaiola is something anyone can do and turn an ordinary dinner into something spectacular.  How do you do it?  Let me show you!

“STEAK PIZZAIOLA”

THE RECIPE:

Ingredients – Beef Round Tip Steak, red bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, olive oil, butter, canned crushed tomatoes, fresh basil, Cycles Gladiator Pinot Noir, parmesan cheese

Spices – salt, pepper, garlic powder, minced garlic, dried basil, oregano,  

“MISE EN PLACE” BEFORE HITTING THE ROAD

Step 1 – Knocking out chopping up a two tablespoons of onions, red peppers and mushrooms

ON THE ROAD, READY TO COOK

Step 2 – Once you’re ready to cook, heat up a skillet and drop in a tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of butter and heat up your pan.

Step 3 – As the skillet is coming up to temperature, lightly salt & pepper your steak and dust with some garlic powder before dropping it into the pan and searing it on both sides.

Step 4 – After the steak has cooked on both sides, about 2-3 minutes each, pull the steak and set aside. Then to the pan add in your peppers, onions and mushrooms and cook until they just start to soften.

Step 5 – Now it’s time to add back your steak along with a can of crushed tomatoes and a teaspoon each of: dried basil, minced garlic, and oregano along with some shredded fresh basil. Also, add in a quarter cup of your pinot noir.  Then cover and cook for 7 minutes on each side, until the steak is soft.

Step 6 – To plate up, I like to lay down some of the sauce, put the steak on top. Rip off some fresh basil with a little parmesan cheese and a good piece of bread! It’s time to eat.

A simple and fun meal to do on the road that will hit the spot and make you feel like you’re at a nice Italian neighborhood restaurant!
