FISH CREEK, WI – What do you do when you want to “Chef-It-Up” on the road and do something fancy, but might be a little nervous about doing it? Find an easy recipe and tackle it head on! That’s what we’re doing today as we bust out some culinary chops and cook mussels!
And here’s the best part… we’re going to do it in 8 easy steps!

THE RECIPE:
Ingredients – Mussels, Bacon, Onions, Roma Tomatoes, Mushrooms, Bottle of Beer, Fresh Basil, Butter, Lemon, Olive Oil, French Bread
Spices – Minced Garlic, Garlic Powder, Salt, Pepper, Oregano, Dried Basil, Thyme
Step 1 – Into a hot pan, drop in a teaspoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of butter. Swirl around the pan until coated.
Step 2 – Take to slices of bacon, chop them up and drop them in the pan. You want to cook them down until they start to look crunchy.
Step 3 – To the pan, add in a quarter cup of chopped onions and 4-5 chopped up mushrooms. Mix in pan.
Step 4 – Next into the skillet add in two chopped Roma tomatoes and your spice blend which consists of: 1 teaspoon each of garlic powder, dried basil, thyme, pepper, and oregano along with a half a teaspoon of salt.
In the skillet, mix all of your elements together to coat.
Step 5 – Into the skillet, add in a pound of cleaned mussels, stirring to coat.
Step 6 – Take a bottle of your favorite beer and pour it into skillet trying to make sure all of the liquids cover the mussels.
Step 7 – Take two slices of lemon, squeeze them into the mussels and then hand tear some fresh basil to finish off the dish for the final 2 minutes of cooking.
Step 8 – Plate up everything! This whole meal should take about 20 minutes to make. Once you have everything in a bowl, I use the same skillet with a little butter in it to toast some bread before diving in to eat everything up!
