This episode is dedicated to all those impacted by “Hurricane Michael” in Florida & South Georgia. My heart goes out to everyone and I’ve included some links to a couple of organizations doing great work in the area. If you’re able to make a donation some place to help, please do so.

Meanwhile, this video was taken before all of the damage and I’m glad I had a chance to check out the area pre-storm. So what can you look forward to in this episode:

–           See what happens when there’s a little drama with the rig on the road

–           I’m going to take you to a really cool new State Park

–           Cheffing it Up: Yep… Pizza on the road and it’s not frozen!

On this trip:

–           Drama on the Road in the Rig…

So one night in the rig, after watching a movie, my propane alarm started to go off and that made me extremely nervous. I’ve heard the alarm before, but it stopped quickly and all was good. This time, not so much. The alarm continued and I actually had to cut the cords for the night. I went online and found a nearby RV store, “Dixie RV Superstores,” in Defuniak Springs. It was about a half hour away, so after a tense night sleeping, I got up early and headed to the store.

I had gone online and found a replacement unit for the propane alarm. They had one and thanks to Nicole, Katie and Amanda I was able to pick it up and install it myself. I did have a little hiccup and at first the test of the alarm wasn’t working, but Amanda, the only female tech at the shop who was coming on shift, helped me quickly and I was up and going with my new alarm. I’ve provided links to both the store and the replacement alarm below. Big shout out to Amanda again!

–           “Florida Caverns State Park”…

OK, this is one of the coolest spots I’ve been to RVing. The sites are nice and large, easy to get in and out of. There are a lot of good hiking trails and lots to do. Obviously they’re known for their Caverns, which I will be doing a separate video for coming up, so there’s not a lot of information here right now. The bathhouse is clean and nice. Cell service good and this really was a fun place to set up shop for a while.

Cost Per Night: $23.97

–           Cheffing it Up: “Deep Dish Pizza”…

No need to call out for Pizza delivery on the road, you can do it all yourself AND it will taste amazing! Here’s how you do it.

Ingredients: crushed tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, flour, pepperoni, sausage, olive oil, dry yeast

Spices: garlic powder, salt, pepper, basil, oregano, crushed red peppers

First, it’s time to make the dough. You want to start by taking a quarter teaspoon of yeast, add a quarter teaspoon of sugar, mixed with a ¼ cup of warm water and let bloom for about 5 minutes.

Once the yeast mixture has bloomed, take two cups of flour, add a pinch of salt to the flour then add a teaspoon of olive oil to the yeast mixture and a cup of water. Take the wet mixture and add to the dry, adding additional water if needed. As you mix the dough, it should pull away from the sides. When it does, empty onto a dry surface with flour and kneed into a ball. Place the ball into a bowl, cover with a warm cloth and let the dough rise for about an hour. An hour in, punch down the center, then roll back into a ball and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After a half hour, take the dough and put it in the refrigerator for about another half hour before using.

Now it’s time to make your sauce. You need a 28 OZ can of crushed tomatoes, salt & pepper, a tablespoon of dried oregano and basil, and in a tablespoon and a half of garlic powder, mix and let stand.

For this pizza, we’re taking about a quarter cup of hot Italian sausage and cooking them in a pan with a little olive oil and then about two tablespoons of pizza sauce.

Once everything is cooled off, it’s time to assemble the pie. You start by heating up your cast iron skillet with a little butter. As the butter melts, take it off of the stove and you want to spread it all over the pan, paying attention to the edges.

Next, take your dough and roll it or toss it out and place in the pan, making sure you go as high as you can on the sides.

After the dough is in place, you add the cheese on the bottom first. Then add your pepperoni and sausage mixture, followed by your pizza sauce and some crushed red peppers to taste.

Your grill should be hot and in my case a majority of the coals to the back of the grill so I can put the pan in and still close the grill. You then take the pan and place it in the grill, cover and cook for about 30 minutes before checking. Don’t open sooner. Then after 30 minutes you can check to see if the sauce is firming up and the crust looks golden. After that you want to go anywhere from another 15 to 25 minutes.

After the final cooking time take the pan out and let it rest a good 10-15 minutes to set up before cutting into it. Once it’s ready, slice, pour your favorite beverage and enjoy the fun!
