This is a jammed back Vlog this time, because you’ve got a new park with new gear and a new recipe to help fill that belly. So here’s what’s in store for you:

–           A Trip to Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park…

–           New Camera Gear for the Channel…

–           Cheffing it Up: “Crazy Pasta”…

On this trip:

–           “Gilchrist Blue State Park”

Gilchrist Blue State Park, is just outside of High Springs Florida, which is about 25 miles North of Gainesville. It is a small park, mostly designed for day-use, but does have camping both for RV’s and tents. The road into the park is very bad and bumpy, it should normally take about 5 minutes to get from the main road to the park, but because of the road conditions, it took almost 15-20 minutes because you have to dodge a lot of pot holes. In addition to the road conditions, the sites themselves are also pretty uneven, so you’ll have to do some leveling. There are pull through sites which are nice. Now here’s a bit of a bummer. There is no place to dump your tanks. You have to actually drive to O’Leno State Park, which is about 15-20 minutes away to dump. They have an agreement with Gilchrist to allow folks to dump.

The thing that clearly makes the park special are the springs. Gorgeous water, you can spend hours in it swimming and kayaking and paddle boarding. There are a lot of hiking areas around as well. This park, clearly is a “day-use” park with folks coming in to enjoy the springs and then head back out.

Cell service was OK. The bathhouse, not as clean as I’d like and the park in general had a lot more trash around the RV sites and on some of the trails. The best part about this park for me was the water and that lived up to the billing.

–           Camera Time!…

When I shoot my videos, most of the time I’m using my I-Phone 6. For the most part it does a great job for me and I have it with me ALL of the time. But I’ve also wanted to add in some new equipment to help make some of these videos even more entertaining so in this Vlog I decided to bust out my Sony Cybershot camera and my Go-Pro-Like Odvrm Camera.

Both of the cameras will allow me to add some new shots to the Vlogs moving forward. The Cybershot, I’ve had for a while, love the quality of it, but it also doesn’t have a flip screen which is really key for Vlogging. Also, I do a lot of my editing in my I-Phone and have yet to upgrade my computer and editing software, so it is a little cumbersome getting the footage off of the camera right now to edit.

The nice part about the Odvrm, is that I can take this bad boy into the water, which you can see in this video. It should allow me to do some more crazy shots, which I will have to experiment with. However when you put the casing on to take the camera into the water it covers up the mic a lot and the sound isn’t very good.

Bottom line, I’m going to have to really play with these bad boys and figure out what they really can and cannot do and start adding them into the mix!

–           Cheffing it Up: “Crazy Pasta”…

This is a dish I normally do at home, but decided to road-test it and put a little twist on it, by roasting the vegetables. Hope you like it!

“Crazy Pasta”

Ingredients: Asparagus, Broccoli, Zucchini, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions, Heavy Cream, Sour Cream, Olive oil, Butter, Rotini Pasta, 1 Egg

Spices: Chopped Garlic, Salt, Pepper, Garlic Pepper, Paprika

First, boil 1 quart of water. Once the water is rolling add in a cup of Rotini Pasta and boil for about 3-5 minutes, until the pasta is starting to get soft. Turn off the pasta, let it stand in water for another 1-2 minutes then drain and set aside.

Fire up your charcoal grill and get it going. Once the fire is going well, place a cast iron skillet onto the coals directly, with a tablespoon of butter and let melt.

While the grill is getting hot, in a bowl chop and mix all of your vegetables. Once the veggies are cut up, coat with Olive Oil, then add a teaspoon each of all of your spices. Mix and take them to the grill, put them in the pan, cover and let cook them down for about 5-10 minutes.

On the stove, start a wide pan, melting a tablespoon of butter. As the butter melts, add in the roasted vegetables and pasta, stirring to coat everything. Salt & Pepper lightly.

Once the vegetables and pasta are mixed and have cooked together for about 2 minutes, add in a quarter cup of heavy whipping cream and 1 egg. Mix again and let stand for another minute or two.

After the egg and cream have mixed, add in two tablespoons of sour cream. Mix and then add ¼-1/2 a cup of any cheese you want. Stir and let the dish meld together for another 2-3 minutes before plating and enjoy!
